Virtual Vegan Vigilantes (Veggie Nazis)

"We enslave, torture, and murder billions of cows, pigs, and chickens every year and nobody bats an eye. A dog is forced to swim for a scene in a movie and everyone loses their fucking minds."

Oh please.....

That quote is from yet another Vegan "activist" on Reddit hijacking a thread to draw yet another false equivalency to make a ridiculous point.

That being of course, the evils of factory farming somehow not rising to level of someone who beats up a dog.

I'm sorry if I offend anyone with this but dammit....

I'm sick of half-baked, half-assed activists whose only goal in life it seems is to make everyone else feel miserable.

So thank you Veggie Nazi, you've given me inspiration.

Since there never seems to be a separation for you people let's just make the assumption that you feel all meat is bad and we're all going to hell for eating any of it.

Regardless of whether or not it's "factory farmed."

You tend to deal in half-reasoned absolutes so that's how I'm going to address you...

Now, let's talk about those beleaguered chickens, cows and pigs shall we?

Yes, they're animals and yes I wouldn't be a very good butcher because they have eyes and would look at me.  If I had to do the deed to save my life, I'd likely starve to death.  The prospect of reducing one to it's constituent products is not something this society has raised me to deal with.

That stems mostly from the fact that I was born into a world with indoor plumbing and something other than animal skins and fig leaf jockstraps.

Let me be clear having said that.  That's no excuse for inhumane treatment of any living thing but let's get real here.  These keyboard ninjas swilling their fat-free smoothies and soy milk treat anyone that's ever visited a drive-thru like they were Jeffrey Dahmer.

Let's get this straight....

There's no such thing as a Free Range Chicken.  I mean really....

Do you think there's some golden, sunlit valley somewhere teaming with cackling hens dancing around crystal streams where they live out their happy days to a ripe old age?

BS, they'd all starve to death in a week.

All Free-range means is that they don't get caged up.  That's a good thing but they're still destined for the dinner table.

They wander around aimlessly pecking the ground cackling and crapping.  Most of the time simultaneously.  They're dirty, ill tempered and unpleasant.

Pigs aren't much better.  It's been said that they supposedly have the mental equivalent of a 3 year old human child.

Which explains the general hygiene of most 3 year old's.

Beef cattle, much like Chickens, exist to be eaten.  They, like Chickens, spend most of their day wandering around aimlessly grazing and crapping.  Without much regard for either other than continuing the acts.

I suppose identifying with 1000 pounds of manure factory is someone's idea of bliss but only if you think Tofu and plain yogurt taste like anything but ASS.

I'm a realist and as such I am fully aware that all of these "endangered" livestock exist in nature for no reason OTHER than to be a meal for something else.

This is how nature made them.  I'm no evolutionary biologist but I'm fairly certain that cows, sheep, pigs and chickens can trace the roots of their place in the food chain back to similarly situated ancestors.

Should we decry the fate of the Ant when the Anteater comes around?  The Mouse when the Cat catches him?

Just because they're cute doesn't elevate them above livestock.

I suppose Native Americans were monsters for killing Buffalo.

Never mind they made use of virtually every part of the animal.

"Barbarians!" you say.  "They should've been eating grass and leaves!"  (and maybe smoking some too!)

I don't put much faith into that biblical nonsense about "Man's dominion over the Earth."  I'm pretty sure nature gives you a few perks and you battle it out from there.

"What about the dinosaurs," you may say, "the largest were almost always herbivores!"

Yeah, they were and they didn't move very fast either.  Know why?  because the carnivores needed a steady food supply and rats on the forest floor weren't going to cut it.

They were beef cattle.

Humans?  We're Omnivores.  Our bodies don't work right without a balance of both flora and fauna.

Sorry buddy, it's just how we're made and why all those Veggie Nazis always seem to look so sick.

Yeah sure.  Point to those rail-thin Victoria Secret models prancing around.  All of them looking like they're in dire need of a sandwich with something other than air between their gluten-free bread.

That's not even an acceptable female body image these days.  So what about that Mr. Activist?   Promoting an unhealthy body image seems to me to be far worse.

The old adage of moderation in everything applies.  Some of this, some of that and things go much better.

Sure, there are 100+ year old vegetarians.

They look like crap...

But to the point of this little piece...

The guilt-trip has to stop.  Spare me the evil eye while you're choking down your rice cakes and hand-raised soybean spread.  I'm perpetuating no evil.

You know damned well you want a burger.

How do I know?

Because there's an entire industry that's grown up around your mania catering to your natural desire for balance.  A need for sustenance that doesn't normally end up in a lawn mower bag.

Fake burgers, fries, ice cream, even milk.

If you're so happy with twigs and leaves why do companies make millions producing soybean saturated stand-ins?

Get off your high horse.  Besides, did you ask it if it actually WANTED you on it's back?

Hypocrite!

You're not superior, you don't have all the answers, and you need to stop assaulting everyone with your absolutes.  Nobody will care about your cause if you alienate everybody.

Yes, treat animals humanely for God's Sake!  Just keep your condemnations to yourself if I choose a more traditional path.

The two aren't incompatible.

Remember, Absolutes are for Sith Lords and Fascists.

Don't be a Sith Lord.

TWIT: slow motion suicide

My aunt had a favorite phrase when someone kept vacillating over a fairly obvious decision.

"Shit or get off the pot"

Now I admit, I may be "slightly" under the influence of something as I compose this but it only served to release the diamond that I had been forming in my posterior...

TWIT either needs to admit its positioning itself for takeover (aka: oblivion) or admit they've screwed up the last 4 years and do a 180.

Look, TWIT is in a slow decline and frankly nothing ever changes for the better there.  Yay! Marketing Mavericks is finally gone but it took a damned year to figure out that it was a flawed concept to begin with.  GameOn! was dead in 3 months...

I mean, did anyone in their right mind really want to hear about the triumphs of the very scum whose endeavors brought about a million dollar industry of ad blocking apps?

There are very few shows I have even a passing interest in on TWIT anymore and the latest episode of Windows Weekly was one of them.

That was until episode #411 when instead of scintillating Microsoft Build news I got left field commentary from Laporte and Thurrott fueled by craft beer and Bourbon.  All the while Mary Jo Foley desperately tried to reign in some measure of content to no avail.  Even special guests like Dr. Pizza couldn't do any more than repeat the same diatribe over and over again.

Truth be told, around 3PM I was far more interested in today's episode of Star Trek ( the original series ) and after an hour and a half of non-content from the "special" Windows Weekly I'd had enough.  Yes, it was so bad that a 40+ year old rerun of a TV show I've seen a dozen times was of far more importance than news of the latest Windows release.

C'mon, have we lost all respect for the time the few fans of TWIT invest in its mediocre content?

Now we have a new controversy hot on the heels of dissing yet another popular TWIT host, Chad Johnson.  I'm not even going to touch the whole Giz Wiz, Dick DeBartolo thing.

It seems there may be some question as to the legality of The New Screen Savers in the person of one NBC/Universal who have apparently sent a "cease and desist" letter to TWIT over infringement of their copyright.

On this point I agree that NBC's assertion of copyright is an example of the worst aspects of copyright.  I mean, who the hell cares about a bunch of outdated content from a decade ago that the current "owner" has shoved so far down the rat hole that they can't even find all of it.

But I digress.  This isn't about any shared views I may have with TWIT over flawed copyright laws.  Even in this small moment of reason, TWIT's position falls to just another manifestation of an over inflated ego.

Yeah, it's obvious, I read totaldrama.net today and discovered a few more gems and while it's really nothing I should be concerned about, nonetheless, I am.

You see, TWIT as it is now is the very representation of failing upward.

Instead of succeeding on your merits, it seems TWIT's "business" plan is predicated on doing everything but capitalizing on what it used to do best.  That being to provide informative content.

I'm so damned tired of "bubble boys" who exist only to feed their own egos.

They are the leeches of a civilized society.  They exist to feed but contribute nothing to its advancement.  When ego, greed and hubris are the only end there can be no humility.

To those who say I should just drop it, I say you're naiveté may be cute but it's getting a bit old.  TWIT, Leo Laporte and all the rest mean nothing in the greater societal consciousness but your acceptance of its relevance without critical review is dangerous.

If all a popular figure needs to do is play with some gadgets and have a silky smooth radio voice to sway you what else will you fall for.

Engage critical thinking and put the troll to bed.  Do this in all things and maybe the evil world you constantly seek to save will actually start to improve.

Social Media is a lie

Social Media is a lie

There, I said it and you know damned well that it's true.  Popular culture has adopted the premise of social media being the new normal.  That's what people mean when they overuse the term "ubiquitous" by the way.

We're told to carefully curate our Facebook pages and polish our LinkedIn profiles to ensure that we're giving the "right" impression to any drive-by onlookers who may take a passing interest.  I mean we wouldn't want to send the wrong message would we?

Prospective employers love social media.  It's a quick and dirty way to get the goods on candidates without ever having to meet them.  In other words your social media persona might as well be another copy of your resume, dating profile and background report all in one neat multimedia package.

So best be sure it's showing you in your best light...Which defeats the purpose.

Knowing that almost everyone engaged in social media is either lying or too naive to realize the ramifications of that video from your last trip to Vegas means none of it has value.

The only people who are honest are the ones with nothing to lose which is exactly .000000001%.  Good luck finding that needle in the haystack and when you do try not to be disappointed when you find out those people aren't that interesting.

Social media is less about connecting than providing a mechanism for personal advertisement.  Which means it's about as useful as a commercial for a feminine hygiene product.

Social media is just an outgrowth of a society built on lies.  We choose political candidates based on which one's empty promises we're most aligned with.  We associate with people that otherwise would never get the  time of day if we think they can be of use to us.  We go along with the popular groupthink for fear of repercussion should we speak our own minds.

Keep social media in the context of a public facing mask and you'll stay out of trouble.  Ignore the starry eyed optimists proclaiming how connected the world is because of it.  It's not, if you live in Nebraska the chances that you actually care about anything going on in Uzbekistan are negligible.  So long as there's that strong "media" component in social media (meaning it's fake) it's nothing more than personal marketing of a false image.

In short, keeping it real does not include being a social media maven.  Reality has nothing to do with it at all.
